Before I look into this week's upcoming game, I'd like to apologize on behalf of the Red Devil Radio Network for us being unable to broadcast last week's game. Unfortunately due to spacing reasons in the Jaguars press box we were unable to gain access to a spot to broadcast the game, much like the North Forsyth game earlier in the season, so we apologize for not being able to call the game for you all. We appreciate so much all the concern and support we get from all of you guys and we will be finishing the season broadcasting live the final two Red Devil games of the season.
Now let's look at and preview this week's game.
For this week, the Red Devil face their most daunting challenge all season long as they will be hosting the powerhouse known as Buford and the Buford Wolves. The Wolves have won 11 State Football Championships in the school's history, including 10 in the past 17 years alone. Had it not been for Rome defeating them for the State Championship last season, they would be 12 time and defending champions, that shows how mighty the team's football program is. A lot of fans affectionally give them the nickname/title of "Buford University" as their success rivals that of powerhouse college football schools.
Buford comes into this week undefeated in region play, having beaten everyone in the region by a combined 220-7!! An incredible feat that shows you the discrepancy between Buford and everyone else in the region. They are ranked #11 in the state. Unfortunately I don't have any statistics for Buford beyond what I have just given. They have a lot of seniors and juniors on the team and are led by Sr. players such as QB Will Westmoreland, RB/FS Anthony Grant and other Sr, Jr. players listed on the chart to give you an idea of their talent:
8 Isaiah Isaac WRSr.5-10175
9 Tyler Gillis WRSr.6-2190
10 Kj Johnson WR, FSJr.5-11175
11 Demontre Bennett WR, SSSr.6-2160
12 J.c. VegaC, LSJr.6-0195
13 Will Westmoreland QBSr.6-1200
14 Clayton Nelson QBJr.6-0195
15 Javen Sadler RBSo.5-6
16 Tre Luttrell QB, OLBJr.6-1180
17 Brent Parker OLB, TESr.6-2190
20 Jaylan Strickland CB, WRSr.5-9155
21 Matt Walton WR, SS
Loganville's numbers look like this: they total 118.1 receiving yds, 81 yds rushing avg, 10 TD's season, 7 passing/receiving TD's and just 3 rushing TD's. Below the national average on most of those categories. Loganville has three quarterbacks in Sr. David Smith, and Freshmen Colton Gauthier and Tanner Green they have been rotating this year. Senior WR Blake May has 4 TD's this season and Jr RB D'erius Hart has 2 TD's. That's what the highlights of the LHS offense look like this year.. Defensively Justin Moss, Conor Winkler and CJ Wymbs have all contributed with sacks, fumble recoveries and strong defensive stands this year for LHS.
This will be game that ,to be honest, I'm just looking for LHS to survive the grind of facing the mighty Buford team. They are mismatched in every area of the game including size, strength and speed so I think the challenge will be just trying to slow Buford down. LHS has held down top region teams who have scored heavy numbers of points coming into the game against them like Winder-Barrow (17) and Flowery Branch (6) so there is hope when you look at it on that end. The offense has failed to really get going this year ,which in turn has caused the defense to have work harder, resulting in them being overwhelmed with fatigue late in the game. It will be neat to see if LHS can cool down Buford offensively.
Keys To The Game:
*Cool Down Buford's Offense
*Spread Buford out defensively
*Survive The Grind (don't get intimidated by the presence of Buford)
